The last month of the regular season is usually prime time for scoreboard watching. But the American League Central is so far from competitive at this point that it’s time for Twins fans to shift their attention away from the second-place Cleveland Guardians and to other races. The Twins haven’t clinched a playoff spot. And manager Rocco Baldelli and those within the clubhouse will be the first to point that out.But as the regular season enters its final few weeks, the Twins hold a 99.6% chance of making the playoffs, per FanGraphs, with the Cleveland Guardians sitting 7 1/2 games back entering Monday’s play, and the Twins holding a magic number of 12 before Monday’s games. Now the question isn’t so much if they will make the playoffs but rather whom they will play.FanGraphs gives the Twins a 0.4% chance of clinching a bye, which would require them to pass one of the American League East (Baltimore) or West (Houston) division leaders, with the Astros being the closer of the two....Staying prepared for National Preparedness Month

FORT COLLINS — Shilo Sanders took an official visit to Canvas Stadium as a Texas teenager back in December 2018, two CSU coaches ago. How different this little tale could’ve gone.“Deion Sanders had had a lot of public critics. I’m not one of them,” the current Rams football coach, Jay Norvell, said to lead off his Monday news conference in FoCo.“I really respect all head coaches and the sacrifices that they’ve had to make to become head coaches. And I appreciate the path that they have to go through to get there, and especially African American coaches. And so I was happy to see Deion get his opportunity. I had to wait a long time to get mine.”History says the Rams, who are coming off a bye and into the cauldron of Folsom Field Saturday for the Rocky Mountain Showdown, have the right man in Norvell. SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco Giants right-hander Ross Stripling on Monday tamped down some of the hot-button language he used over the weekend to detail his roster situation but noted he still doesn’t exactly know when he’ll come off of the injured list.Stripling, who remains inactive despite being healthy and eligible to come off the 15-day IL on Sept. 1, expressed his frustration Saturday about what he perceived to be a lack of communication regarding when he’ll pitch in a big-league game again, using the term “phantom IL” to describe what he’s experiencing.“That was a trigger word and I shouldn’t have used that,” Stripling said before the Giants opened a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians at Oracle Park. “That was my word that I just threw out there. Definitely should not use that verbiage.“But that’s just kind of how I felt at the time because I feel healthy and I do want to pitch, but that was the wrong choice of words.”Stripling told Bay Area News Grou...Latest news
