BROWNSVILLE, Texas (KVEO) - Seven people were killed Sunday morning after a driver ran over them in Brownsville, Texas. The collision does not appear to have been accidental, police said. The victims were at a bus stop in front of the Ozanam Center, a shelter for migrants and homeless people in the Texas border city, at 8:30 a.m. when they were hit. Shelter director Victor Maldonado said he reviewed the shelter’s surveillance video on Sunday morning after receiving a call about the crash. The city bus stop is across the street from the shelter and is not marked. (CNN) — The suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting in Allen, Texas, was identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, a senior law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CNN.Eight people were killed and at least seven others were wounded from the massacre in the affluent suburb of Allen, about 25 miles north of Dallas.Steven Spainhouer’s son was working at Allen Premium Outlets when he received the phone call no father ever wants to hear.“He said, ‘Dad, we have a shooting … I’m pulling people into the break room, and we’re going to lock the door,'” Spainhouer told CNN on Sunday. The former Army and police officer raced to the scene, called 911 and “started counting the bodies on the ground … one, two, three, five, six, seven bodies.”The carnage marked yet another massacre at a public place where Americans had long felt safe — such as supermarkets, schools and Fourth of July parades. It happened in...Trump rejects last chance to testify at New York civil trial

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trump rejected his last chance Sunday to testify at a civil trial where a longtime advice columnist has accused him of raping her in a luxury department store dressing room in 1996.Trump, a Republican candidate for president in 2024, was given until 5 p.m. Sunday by U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan to file a request to testify. Nothing was filed. It was not a surprise. Trump has not shown up once during the two-week Manhattan trial where writer E. Jean Carroll testified for several days, repeating claims she first made publicly in a 2019 memoir. She is seeking compensatory and punitive damages totaling millions of dollars. The jury has also watched lengthy excerpts from a videotaped deposition from October in which Trump vehemently denied raping Carroll or ever really knowing her. After prosecutors rested their case Thursday, Tacopina immediately rested the defense case as well without calling any witnesses.Still, Kaplan said he would give Tru...Dutch police arrest 154 football supporters over antisemitic chants

MIAMI — The Knicks bench and depth, considered their advantages in the Eastern Conference semis, have instead been lagging and were thrown another challenge with Immanuel Quickley’s injury.Quickley, who only missed one game this season, is listed as “doubtful” for Monday night’s Game 4 after spraining his ankle in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s Game 3.The Knicks, it should be noted, used the same “doubtful” status for Josh Hart in the previous series because of a sprained ankle and he played the next game. But if Quickley is unavailable Monday, Tom Thibodeau’s prior adjustments suggest he’ll either shorten the rotation to eight players or give minutes to defensive specialist Miles McBride. With the Knicks’ offense in a funk, Thibodeau was asked Sunday if he’ll consider adding Evan Fournier and Derrick Rose to the rotation.“Everything is on the table,” he responded. That’s the coach’s stock...Mets allow 7 runs in disastrous 5th inning, lose for 11th time in 14 games

This season’s trend of short outings from Mets’ starting pitchers continued Sunday, as starter Joey Lucchesi gave up three runs in four innings of work in the 13-6 loss against the Rockies. With the Mets’ offense in a funk as of late — scoring just nine runs in five games prior to Sunday — the rubber match got off to an exceptional start for Buck Showalter’s squad. After going down 1-0 following a homer from Rockies’ DH Randal Grichuk, Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor both walked to lead off the bottom of the frame. Jeff McNeil hit a single to score Nimmo to tie the game and Brett Baty, who hit fifth Sunday, singled to score Lindor and McNeil. The scoring could’ve continued, as Luis Guillorme singled to right but Daniel Vogelbach was thrown out at second base for the final out right before Baty could cross home for the fourth run.McNeil’s RBI single put the Mets up 4-3 in the fourth, but Kris Bryant, who started in right field, hi...Gerrit Cole, Yankees blow 6-0 lead after Rays win in 10th inning with walk-off single

ST PETERSBURG — A 6-0 lead should have been more than enough to beat the Rays, especially with Gerrit Cole on the mound. But little has gone well for the Yankees outside of their ace this year, and Cole finally contributed to a sorry stretch that he had otherwise only interrupted with a dominant run until Sunday’s 8-7 series finale loss against the first place Rays.Cole surrendered his first two home runs of the season, the first coming off the bat of No. 9 hitter Jose Siri in the fifth inning. Cole had gone 51 innings without giving up a longball to open the season after leading the American League in dingers last year, but Siri’s shot was only of the solo variety. However, the Rays added another run on a fluky play involving Gleyber Torres and Oswaldo Cabrera, and more trouble followed in the sixth.First, Isaac Paredes’s RBI double cut the Yankees’ lead to three. It then evaporated altogether when Christian Bethancourt, the Ray’s No. 8 hitter, c...Latest news
