WIMBLEDON, England — Carlos Alcaraz said he wanted another shot at Novak Djokovic. Said it would make winning a Wimbledon championship more special. Well, Alcaraz got his chance to face Djokovic. And he beat him.Alcaraz put aside a poor start and surged down the stretch to end Djokovic’s 34-match winning streak at the All England Club by edging him 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in an engaging, back-and-forth final on Sunday, claiming his first championship at Wimbledon and second Grand Slam trophy overall. The No. 1-ranked Alcaraz prevented No. 2 Djokovic from collecting what would have been a record-tying eighth title, and fifth in a row, at the grass-court tournament. Djokovic also was kept from earning a 24th career major.Instead of Djokovic, a 36-year-old from Serbia, becoming the oldest male champion at Wimbledon in the Open era, Alcaraz, a 20-year-old from Spain, became the third-youngest. The age gap between the two was the widest in any men’s Slam final since 1974.So Alcaraz ha...British Open has an old course with a new finish at Royal Liverpool

HOYLAKE, England (AP) — Cameron Young is playing only his second British Open, so Royal Liverpool is a new links for him to learn. After flying in Sunday morning, he kept his day short by skipping over from the 14th green to the 18th tee. That’s when his caddie, Paul Tesori, became part tour guide, part historian.Pointing to a small grandstand behind the 17th tee, Tesori told Young it previously was the 15th green. The old 15th tee — a par 3 — now is a 620-yard par 5 — the longest in Open history — that heads back toward town. Also moved back is the 18th tee, now playing some 60 yards longer.Thirty-eight players in the field for the 151st Open also were at Royal Liverpool the last time in 2014. Only nine players in the field were at the last two.For all of them, this old course has a new finish.Players began filtering in for the final major of the year. Phil Mickelson was among the early arrivals, a LIV Golf player who played two weeks ago outside London. Metro is testing a new system they say will help rail riders catch their connecting bus a little easier.New strobing bus transfer lights at some bus stops located outside of Metrorail stations will alert operators when a train is approaching the station during off-peak hours so they can delay the bus by up to five minutes, giving people exiting the train a little more time to catch their bus connection.Metro said in a news release that the bus transfer lights are going to be near bus stops that serve lower-frequency routes, “where missing a bus by a few minutes may delay an important trip by 30 minutes to an hour.”The goal is to reduce bus waiting times, especially at night. The daily off-peak hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The new bus signal testing began on Saturday at the Greenbelt station where the light signal alerts bus operators on the C2 route of trains approaching near the time their bus is scheduled to depart the station.SourceKnizner activated from injured list by Cardinals, who option Baker to Memphis

CINCINNATI (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Rowdy Tellez had surgery on his left ring finger after injuring himself during pregame warmups and will miss an additional four weeks. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Tellez was shagging fly balls in the outfield Saturday and got his finger stuck in the padding of the center field wall. Tellez tore his fingernail off and had to undergo surgery to insert 17 stitches and repair a small fracture on the end of the finger. He had been on track to return Tuesday in Philadelphia. “It was a freak accident,” Counsell said Sunday. “Wasn’t sprinting, wasn’t going at a high speed, believe me. I actually saw it. Looked like a very innocent thing. Probably means we won’t see him back with us for four weeks.” Tellez isn’t expected to resume baseball activity for two-to-three weeks. He has been on the injured list since July 5 with right forearm inflammation.Tellez is hitting .213 with 12 homers and 36 RBIs. O...Latest news
